Explore Tasmania from Elm Wood |
Westbury is situated
about 25 minutes west of Launceston and 45 minutes south-east of
Devonport. It sits just north of the Great Western Tiers, the
escarpment to the Central Highlands of Tasmania. Some 30 minutes
to the north east is the Tamar Valley. It's vineyards are gaining an
international reputation for fine Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Riesling
and Sparkling Wines. To the south in the Tiers are magnificent
walking tracks and some of the best inland trout fisheries anywhere
in the world, all within an hour or so of Elm Wood.
To the
south west is the beautiful and peaceful Meander Valley that grows
salmon, ginseng, honey and milk above ground and limestone
formations in the caves below ground. This route will take you past
vistas (Devil's Gullet and Alum Cliffs) en route to Cradle Mountain
about 90 minutes away. If you travel north-west on highway 1 you
will pass the Christmas Hills Raspberry Farm, cheese factory and a
superb chocolatier all on your way to the North west coastal towns
of Burnie, Wynyard and Smithton. |
